A Stewardship Message from a Parishioner:
I did not choose Saint Andrews by choice, I actually grew up as a neighbor to Saint Andrew at Peace Lutheran! We shared a parking lot for all my youth and I was always curious as to what “that church” was like in reference to Saint Andrews as a kid. When My wife (Kate) and I moved back to Greencastle, she suggested that we go to Saint Andrews. My first experience was how I should hope all churches greet new faces. With open arms and genuine interest! And I got just that. BUT, it is not that that has made me stay. For the past few years I have learned that the reason I enjoy Saint Andrews is that this church leads, follows, and teaches to lead a life of Christianity through love. And I truly believe that is the foundation for this church.

A STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE FROM A PARISHIONER:
Our family started attending St. Andrew’s in the fall of 2022. Before that we had never attended church as a family; in fact, my whole previous churchgoing experience consisted of a short stint of small town Methodism forced on me as a teenager. Suffice to say, I’d had little direct contact with Christianity, and they were not especially fond memories.
There were many reasons we decided to start attending, none of them distinctly Episcopalian or even Christian. But the reasons we kept coming back were definitely particular to St. Andrews. They were (1) Reverend Jen, and (2) this congregation. We had heard via the youth grapevine the new priest at St. Andrews was “really cool” and through the adult grapevine that Reverend Jen had been a professor of Eastern Religions before coming to Greencastle. This was important to me. It meant I could expect her to be open to the questions I needed to ask as an “outsider” and that she’d be able to help me understand both the continuity of and the differences between Episcopal teachings and traditions and those of the wider world. As for the congregation, from the moment we arrived the community at St. Andrews offered exactly what was needed – an open, warm welcome that dispelled any concerns I had about whether I belonged here.
In the two years since, that sense of belonging has deepened, for those same two reasons. Among the highlights: Reverend Jen’s Episcopal 101 class helped me understand the breadth of ideas and questions that have always been part of this tradition. Participating with her in the 2024 Indy Pride parade gave me a chance to witness her inclusive loving values in action, as well as those of the Diocese as a whole. And the pilgrimage to northern England – through singing, walking, and learning – forged new friendships that continue to grow and to deepen our commitment to this community.
Though I’m still not at home with the language of worship, though I’m still learning and still giving back far less than I receive, I am coming to feel at home in this church. Thanks to all of you.
