Genesis for Today: Sabbath

Genesis for Today: Sabbath

After God ceased creating in the Genesis account, God entered wholly into the joy of that creation – inviting humankind to do the same, and God called this experience “rest.” Later, after the Israelites had learned to survive as slaves for generations in Egypt, God had to remind them that they needed time for rest – and commanded the observance of Sabbath on the seventh day of the week. In this sermon, Father John explores the meaning of Sabbath – that it goes beyond merely taking another vacation or a nap, but involves being refreshed in the presence of God. He then examines the benefits of making time for Sabbath renewal in our weekly routine. If you live a life of stress and find work sometimes feels like a taskmaster – this sermon is for you!
