Service of Rededication

Join us this Sunday for an historic service at Saint Andrew’s as we rededicate Hamilton Hall (Don and Laurie Hamilton will be present) and dedicate our new Children’s Ministry space.

The children of the parish will lead the service, and our new Children’s Minister, Kevin Johnston, will preach. We are asking anyone who can to bring a dish of finger foods to contribute to the festive reception that follows in Hamilton Hall.

In addition, this Sunday afternoon Bob and Joanne Haymaker invite you to their home for a “Walk in the Woodsâ€â€”maps to their property will be made available Sunday after the morning service.

Announcements

Parents: for your attention

Saturday, October 3—Children’s Rehearsal for this Sunday’s Service. All children and teachers having a role in this Sunday’s Service of Re-dedication (Sunday, October 4) are asked to attend a rehearsal of the liturgy in the Sanctuary on Saturday, October 3 at 4:00 p.m.

Walk in the Woods. Join us for a walk through beautiful woods on the property of Bob & Joanne Haymaker any time from 3:00–6:00 p.m. Wear old clothes; children may want a change of pants or shoes as there is a creek. Hot dogs, chips, and tea and lemonade will be served—feel free to bring a side dish (not required) and to bring any beverages you wish. There are two large (but friendly!) dogs. Maps to the property are available in the front pew.

Prayer List Reset. We will be “resetting†our parish prayer list in two weeks. If you wish to continue asking for prayer, or wish a name to be added or to remain on the list, please let Renee Hood, our Office Administrator (standrewsgreencastle@gmail.com), know by Sunday, October 18. Thank you!

Found Keys. A silver key ring with one Ford car key and one other smaller key was found behind Hamilton Hall. Please come to Advent House during regular business hours to claim them if they are yours.

Fall Children’s Program. Starting Wednesday, October 7 from 6:15–7:45 p.m., our Children’s Minister, Kevin Johnston, will be offering a mid-week children’s program in conjunction with the Adult Study Groups and the topics explored in our Fall Sermon Series on The Kingdom of God. For more information, contact Kevin Johnston at kjohnston75@hotmail.com.

Newcomer Brunch and Introduction to The Episcopal Church. If you have arrived at Saint Andrew’s in the past year, the Vestry, Wardens, and Rector would like to invite you to gather for a meal following our morning service on Sunday, October 25. This is a chance to get to know the Vestry and what it does, as well as hear a brief introduction to The Episcopal Church from Father John. There will be time for questions and discussion. Please RSVP to the church office by Sunday, October 18 if you can participate. Child care will be provided (children are welcome to eat lunch prior to playing outside or gathering in Advent House).

Fall Sermon Series:The Kingdom of God. During Jesus’ ministry there was one topic he spoke about far more often than any other: “The Kingdom of God,†a concept we will unpack and explore through some of the parables found in the Gospels. If you want to understand the heart of what Jesus came to teach, then this sermon series is for you. October 11, Prepared to Encounter God, Matthew 25:1–13. October 18, A Perspective of Grace, Matthew 20:1–16. October 25, Let’s Party! Luke 14:1–23.  Novembe 1, No Room to Hold Grudges, Matthew 18:21–35. November 8, How Our Lives Fit In, Matthew 25:14–30. November 15, There’s Room for the Old and the New, Matthew 13:44–52.

Adult Study Groups Forming. Beginning the first week of October, adults are invited to one of three study groups led by Father John concerning the topic of each week’s sermon (see above for topics). Tuesday groups will be held 12:00–1:00 p.m. in Hamilton Hall, and 7:00–8:00 p.m. in the home of Martha Rainbolt and Carl Huffman (707 East Seminary Street). The Wednesday group will be held 6:30–7:30 p.m. at the home of Justin and Dana Glessner (639 East Seminary Street), with a children’s program at the church during this time. See following announcement.

Mid-week Children’s Program Starting Soon. Starting on Wednesday, October 7, our Children’s Minister Kevin Johnston will be leading our youth on Wednesday nights from 6:15–7:45 p.m. in Hamilton Hall and our new children’s ministry space. These gatherings will correspond with the adult study group meeting on Wednesdays at the same time.

Beyond Homeless Monthly Meal Donation. Saint Andrew’s donates a meal on the third Sunday of each month. We provide a main dish, side, and dessert to serve 12–15 people (as well as any Saint Andrew’s members who wish to stay and eat with the residents, which is highly encouraged, but not required). Food needs to be delivered by 5:00 p.m. Sign-up online at tinyurl.com/nvcl34x or talk to Martha Rainbolt or Brooke Cox.
